Versions of Vista
Found this on SteelPrice.net and if this weren't true, it'd be funny. C'mon Microsoft, give us a break.
Make it simple:
Home
Pro
Server
Enterprise
I'd even say take out the "Home" version, but that's just me. :-) I haven't run a "home" version of anything since I made the jump to from NT 3.5 back in the day.
FIRED!
The SimplyFired website is a good read, if for no other reason than to understand how completely freakin' insane some people are. ;-) Originally found at Software by Rob.
Connection String generation macro. One word: cool. Found on Jon Galloway's blog. Of course, I just read that Roy Osherove wrote something like this a couple years ago.
Another one from Jon Galloway Jeff Atwood (CodingHorror) : Incremental searching in Visual Studio.
Cool tip, but on a side note, I just installed VimEmu. ;-) Yep...ViM in Visual Studio. The price is a bit steep, but I am SOOO much more productive working in ViM than I am in VS. We'll see how this works out.
Copy protection and rootkits
I found this on Craig Andera's blog, but everyone is talking about it. I had two thoughts while reading the article: "damn, Mark Russinovich is freakin' smart" and "this sucks".
I'll never buy a CD marked "copy-protected". It's bad enough CDs cost so damn much, now we have to worry about this garbage. :-\ BTW, if you haven't picked up the newest edition of Windows Internals, 4th ed.
by Mark and David Solomon, it's worth the $$$. More at news.com.
"ringing the bell"
Kinda reminds me of the JoeCartoon "Look at my monkey" video. :-) This is a funny clip I found while reading Matt Berther's blog.
Update: 11/2/2005 @ 3:52pm (EST) - I mistakenly credited the 'Incremental Searching in Visual Studio' to Jon Galloway. He was nice enough to let me know it was actually a post from Jeff Atwood. I need to stop working on this stuff when I'm tired. :-)
Update: 11/2/2005 @ 8:18am (EST) - added another link about copy protection and rootkits.
