Let me start by saying that my very first computer-related job was found in a Compuserv forum. I can't recall exactly which forum, but I remember reading a post from someone wanting a VB/Crystal Reports developer. I called the number in the post and within a few days had scored the job.
I was surfing around the ASP.NET site the other day and stumbled across the Jobs forum. This forum appears to be populated mostly by “I want/need a job” postings. I'm really curious as to how many people have actually found paying work on one of these forums (not just the ASP.NET Jobs forum). I mean, how many employers hit these forums and say to themselves “I'm going to hire this guy that says he's willing to work 16 hours each weekend”?
Of course, the “jobs available” ads are pretty freakin' silly as well. I saw one that wanted a Sr. .NET developer + a laundry list of technical skills for the whopping salary of $30k per year! WTF? I understand that the bubble burst, but c'mon....$30k for a senior developer?
When I was a senior developer (before bailing to become an independent), I was making about $80k. :-\ It's a good thing business is good, because I'd hate to have to find a “real” job again.
So, I'll ask again...how many people have found a job after posting on a job forum (not Monster or Hotjobs)?
