It’s been an interesting few days, but I’m slowly adjusting to the new environment and culture.
I’ve had the opportunity to make use of some online training the company purchased. The topics vary widely from IT to business-related topics. I have to laugh at some of the business topics though. I mean c’mon…you really can’t learn “leadership” through a web-based course. I don’t even believe you can really learn it in a classroom, but that’s neither here nor there.
The technical topics are pretty good, but just like any other courseware, there are mistakes and bad questions. I’ve never really been good at studying for stuff (pretty much all of my MCSD exams have been taken using only the knowledge I gained on the job), so I’m taking this one step at a time.
So far, I’ve taken some SQL courses (only to find out that I really do know WTF I’m talking about). I’ve scored 100% across the board on the SQL courses, but I haven’t taken the full 70-229 practice test yet. We’ll see if it helps when I go for the real thing.
My kids have made the adjustment to me not being home all the time pretty well. It’s really cool when I get home at 5pm to have my kids come running to the door.
