Link Dump for Wednesday, October 19, 2005

Jakob Neilsen's post about "Top Ten Blog Design Mistakes" has been a pretty active topic on several other blogs, including Coding Horror...Let's see...where do I fall?

#1 - I sorta added #1 yesterday (see the About section on the right side of the blog)
#2 - no photo - maybe I'll use the one of me behind the podium in the White House press room. :-)
#3 - sometimes my titles leave a bit to be desired
#4 - sometimes I'm guilty of not saying exactly where the links are going
#5 - Do I have any "classic hits"?  Maybe, but even so, they are buried. :-)
#6 - Yep
#7 - Yep, although I'm trying to improve this
#8 - Yep...too much personal stuff and not enough technical content
#9 - I do keep this in mind when writing.
#10 - I own my own domain (actually, I own about 35 domains, but that's another story)

Another one from Coding Horror is his post on "Pimp my IDE".  I'm not sure why, but I stopped changing the colors in my IDE a long time ago.  It got to be too much of a PITA.  I should start again, because some of his screenshots looked really good.

Somasegar's "Key trends in software development" is an interesting read.

BetaNews.com has an article about Microsoft Research and a new software tool they've released that will allow "a computer to connect to multiple Wi-Fi networks simultaneously."  Interesting stuff.  Make sure you surf around the Research site and check out some of the really cool stuff they're doing.

Running with no page file seems to be the new thing (if you have lots of RAM).  I'm a bit tempted to try it, but it'll probably wait til' this weekend.  I first saw it here.

I normally don't listen to podcasts, but this one from The DevNet .NET Cast caught my eye, so I listed to
it this morning: The VB6 Glass Ceiling.  Wow.  Juval hit the nail on the head with everything he said.
